Spring 2025 - Workshops and Events

Jen Farrar, the BSBI Botanical Skills Officer in Northern Ireland, will be running a series of training workshops and field events throughout Northern Ireland during 2025. These are all offered under the banner of the Botanical Skills Project in Northern Ireland, funded by the DAERA Carrier Bag Levy, and complement our programme of botanical skills webinars.

The programme of events will have something suitable for all levels of botanical interest and skill, from complete beginners to the expert botanist. All you need is interest, enthusiasm and a desire to know more about the wonderful world of plants.

5th July 2025 - Grasses of neutral to base rich habitats - Field Based Identification Training - Castle Coole, Fermanagh, VC H33          Please book here

This event is a field based training day and will be focussed on the grasses found in the base-rich grasslands of Castle Coole in Co. Fermanagh. The aim of the day will be to gain experience in identifying the grass species encountered in a selection of different habitats found in the grounds of Castle Coole.

We hope to see over twenty species of grass and will be focusing on those species which can be useful indicators for various habitat types.

Other useful habitat indicator species, such as sedges and rushes, will also be pointed out and discussed.

This trip is suitable for suitable for improvers and more experienced botanists. There is a moderate fee to attend.

 

 

11th July 2025 - Sedges of Limestone Wetlands - Field Based Identification Training, Crom Estate, Fermanagh VC H33         Please book here

Field-based training in true sedges, Carex, of limestone grasslands and woodlands at Crom Estate, Co. Fermanagh, led by Robert Northridge. This training day is suitable for improving and more experienced botanists. There is a moderate fee for this training event.
